COMMUNITY / PRIVACY
Private messages and public knowledge serve different needs.
Choose deliberately where a conversation belongs.
SKIENET Editorial · October 30, 2026 · Project notes & perspectives

The question
Members can use direct messages for participant-only conversations and public question channels for reusable answers. A private discussion can contain context that should never be copied into a public thread without permission.
How it relates to SKIENET
A public ENET example should use synthetic data and explain its environment. If a solution came from a private conversation, ask before quoting it and credit contributions appropriately. Technical usefulness does not cancel privacy obligations.
An experiment to try
Before posting, separate the minimal code problem from names, credentials and customer details. Ask whether a stranger can reproduce the issue without that sensitive context. Often a smaller example is both safer and easier to answer.
Limits and next steps
Community knowledge grows when people intentionally publish useful explanations. It should not depend on silently moving messages between audiences. Access rules and editorial attribution remain important even when the interface makes sharing easy.
