ENET 401 · SYLLABUS

Application Workshop

Build four runnable console prototypes, then plan their larger applications.

Project4–6 hours, self-pacedFree · Open-source ENET by JTWAYNE

Learning outcomes

  • Combine functions, lists and rule logic
  • Verify a complete console prototype
  • Plan missing application integrations

Module schedule

  1. MODULE 1 · Study → Live lab → Practice

    Project-budget calculator

Combine reusable functions, values and a formatted result. This is a working console calculation, not payment processing or accounting software.

Assignment: Add a separate estimate for testing time.

  2. MODULE 2 · Study → Live lab → Practice

    Study planner

A list can represent a small schedule. A future visual planner needs a user-interface bridge and storage; this prototype only prints a plan.

Assignment: Create a weekly plan with your own topics.

  3. MODULE 3 · Study → Live lab → Practice

    Build-readiness checker

Boolean checks can model a simple release checklist. This example uses declared sample values; it does not scan your source or certify software security.

Assignment: Add a third check for a selected project license.

  4. MODULE 4 · Study → Live lab → Practice

    Idea-to-application prototype

Start with a clear input, a reusable transformation and visible output. Console prototypes can explore calculations and rule logic today. GUIs, hardware control, AI connections and bridges to other languages require future integrations.

Assignment: Prototype a rule from your own application idea, then document the missing integrations.

Final project: Your first ENET application portfolio

Build a mini portfolio report that estimates two projects and prints a combined total.

  • Define an estimate(hours, rate) function
  • Estimate 4 and 6 hours at $20 per hour
  • Print both labeled estimates and their sum

Review correctness against the sample output, readability, comments and the documented limits of your prototype. Extend and test additional inputs after completing the sample.
