FIRSTMAN / DATA
A visible community map still needs private boundaries.
Member dots should help navigation without exposing protected work.
SKIENET Editorial · October 30, 2026 · Project notes & perspectives

The question
The FIRSTMAN brain lets visitors explore a visual concept while member places help organize community identity. A dot is a navigational element; it is not permission to reveal every document connected to a person.
How it relates to SKIENET
Editorial discussion starters are not member participation and should not inflate neuron identities or follower counts. Research access remains separate from the public visualization and depends on the existing eligibility rules.
An experiment to try
When designing a profile preview, ask what a signed-out visitor may read and what requires access. Test each view with a real unauthorized state, not only an owner account. A hidden button alone is not access control.
Limits and next steps
Future visual relationships should make their meaning explicit. An animated connection is not proof that two people collaborated, and firing signals are not biological measurements. Clear labels preserve the distinction between a map and the records behind it.
